A high-strength PPESK/PVDF fibrous membrane prepared by coaxial electrospinning for lithium-ion battery separator

Electrospinning fibrous membranes have attracted a great deal of attention because of their advantages, including uniform pore size, large ratio surface area, and high porosity. For extended application in lithium-ion battery, it is essential to further improve their electrochemical, mechanical, and thermal properties. In this work, a new poly (phthalazine ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK)/polyvinyli-denefluoride (PVDF) core/shell fibrous membrane was fabricated via the coaxial electrospinning technique, followed by hot press. The PPESK/PVDF membrane hot pressed at 160 degrees C exhibits excellent comprehensive performance, including large porosity (80%), high electrolyte uptake (805%), and excellent thermal stability (at 200 degrees C). Moreover, due to the improved bonding effect derived from the solidification of the PVDF shell layer after the hot press, the mechanical property of the membrane is effectively enhanced. The electrochemical tests also indicate that the PPESK/PVDF membrane shows larger ionic conductivity and lower interfacial resistance when compared with commercial microporous polypropylene separator. In addition, simulated cells assembled with the PPESK/PVDF membrane present superior discharge capacity, stable cycle performance, and excellent rate capability. Therefore, the hot-pressed coaxial PPESK/PVDF fibrous membrane has the potential to be a promising candidate as the separator for high-performance lithium-ion battery.

Under optimal conditions, the detection limits of hydroquinone, catechol and resorcinol were 6.4?x?10-8, 2.7?x?10-9 and 8.1?x?10-7?mol/L, respectively. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of benzenediols in different types of water sample. Waste to wealth: conversion of nano-magnetic eggshell (Fe3O4@Eggshell) to Fe3O4@Ca(HSO4)(2): cheap, green and environment-friendly solid acid catalyst

Eggshell is a hazardous waste by European Union regulations, so that discarded thousands of tons per year. To convert waste (eggshell) to wealth (catalyst), nano-magnetic eggshell was prepared based on the nano-Fe3O4, and then the eggshell was converted to Ca(HSO4)(2) with organic acid, namely, chlorosulfonic acid. Based on the back titration, 5.18mmol SO4H group was loaded per gram of the nano-structure. Using this method eggshell was converted to cheap, green and environment-friendly solid acid catalyst. The prepared catalyst (nano- Fe3O4@Ca(HSO4)(2)) was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The activity of eggshell waste-derived catalysts was successfully evaluated in the synthesis of value-added products, namely indazolo[1,2-b]-phthalazinetrione derivatives as a benchmark multicomponent reaction. In addition, design of experiments shows that increase in amount of catalyst (and temperature), boost the reaction yield, especially with steeper slope at higher temperature.

The HCNS exhibits a smooth surface (roughness of 118 nm) and a porous structure (porosity of 21.06% and pore size of 6.548 mu m) with a mechanical property (tensile index of 45.80 N m g(-1)). The ultrafiltration membranes supported by the HCNS are prepared from poly(phthalazine ether sulfone ketone), which demonstrates high permeance, high rejection rate, and long-term stability at raised operation temperature, thereby suggesting the potential application of HCNS in high-temperature filtration.

A facile electrochemical method for the synthesis of new sulfonamide derivatives of potential biological significance

The electrochemical synthesis of some new sulfonamide derivatives was carried out via the electrochemical oxidation of 2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-dione (1) in the presence of arylsulfinic acids (2a and 2b) as nucleophiles. Pathogenic fungi are one of the main causes of hospital-related infections. Since conventional antifungals have become less effective because of the increasing fungal resistance to the standard drugs, the need for new agents is becoming urgent. Herein we report a synthesis of a series of novel N-[imino-(1-oxo-(1H)-phthalazin-2-yl) methyl]benzenesulfonamide derivatives with in vitro activity against yeast-like fungi isolated from the oral cavity and respiratory tract of patients with candidiasis. These compounds were synthesized by the one-step or two-step reactions of 1-(2-alkylthiobenzensulfonyl)-2aminoguanidines with the appropriate ortho-carbonyl benzoic acids. The biological study revealed that new derivatives have shown significant growth-inhibitory activity, superior or comparable, than those of the reference drug fluconazole. The most promising activities were observed against Candida albicans, with inhibition at least 1-3 (12.5%-37.5%) of the eight tested strains at the low MIC level of <= 6.2-25 mu g/mL.
