Molecular dynamic and quantum chemical calculations for phthalazine derivatives as corrosion inhibitors of mild steel in 1 M HCl

The abilities of phthalazine derivatives, including phthalazine (PT), phthalazone (PTO) and phthalhydrazide (PTD), to inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl at 30 degrees C were studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. Theoretical calculations were performed to investigate the electronic structures of the PT derivatives. Our results showed that the inhibition efficiencies of these derivatives improved with increases in concentration. The data also showed that PTD < PT < PTO in terms of the inhibiting efficiency. A new efficient domino approach for the synthesis of pyrazolyl-phthalazine-diones. Antiradical activity of novel phenolic products

Pyrazolyl-phthalazine-dione derivatives (PPDs) were synthetized in the ionic liquid catalyzed one-pot multicomponent reaction of acetylacetone, 2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-dione, and different aldehydes in moderate to good yields. Six new PPDs were obtained, and the crystal structure of 2-acetyl-1-(4-fluorophenyl)- 3-methyl-1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b] phthalazine-5,10-dione (PPD-4) was determined. The most interesting structural features of the novel PPD-4 is the formation of a rather short intermolecular distance between the F atom of one molecule and the midpoint of the neighbouring six-membered heterocyclic ring. This interaction arranges all molecules into parallel supramolecular chains. UV-Vis spectra of all PPDs were acquired and compared to the simulated ones obtained with TD-DFT. All synthetized compounds were subjected to evaluation of their in vitro antioxidative activity using a stable DPPH radical. It was shown that PPD-7, with a catechol motive, is the most active antioxidant, while PPD-9, with two neighbouring methoxy groups to the phenolic OH, exerted a somewhat lower, but significant antioxidative potential. The results of DFT thermodynamical study are in agreement with experimental findings that PPD-7 and PPD-9 should be considered as powerful radical scavengers. In addition, the obtained theoretical results (bond dissociation and proton abstraction energies) specify SPLET as a prevailing radical scavenging mechanism in polar solvents, and HAT in solvents with lower polarity. On the other hand, the obtained reaction enthalpies for inactivation of free radicals suggest competition between HAT and SPLET mechanisms, except in the case of the (OH)-O-center dot radical in polar solvents, where HAT is labeled as prefered.

Discovery and synthesis of novel allylthioaralkylthiopyridazines: their antiproliferative activity against MCF-7 and Hep3B cells

A new series of 6-allylthio-3-aralkylthio-4,5-dimethylpyridazines 5a-5k and 1-allylthio-4-alkylthio5,6,7,8-tetrahydrophthalazine 6a-6j was synthesized from maleic anhydride derivatives for development of new anticancer agents. The process involves the formation of pyridazine and phthalazine rings, dichlorination, allylthiolation, and aralkylthiolation. These new compounds showed antiproliferative activities against breast cancer (MCF-7) and hepatocarcinoma (Hep3B) cells in CCK-8 assays, and could be promising candidates for chemotherapy of carcinomas. Among 21 synthesized compounds, five compounds (5a, 5b, 6b, 6d, and 6f) showed higher potency than 5-FU for inhibiting the growth of cell line. The results indicated that compound 6f had the highest activity towards MCF-7 and Hep3B cells. These results suggest the potential anticancer activity of compounds 5a, 5b, 6b, 6d, and 6f.

A novel chromogenic and fluorogenic chemosensor for detection of trace water in methanol

A novel receptor (E)-1-(phthalazine-4-yl)-2-(1-(pyridine-2-yl) ethylidene) hydrazine (3) was developed for the detection of trace water content present in methanol. Upon interaction of water molecule with receptor 3, there appears a significant color change from colorless to yellow green and the absorption band at 355 nm was shifted to 435 nm (i.e. bathochromic or red shift) due to selective encapsulation of water molecule at 1-(pthalazine-4-yl) hydrazine-NH and imine groups leading to tautomeric transformation in the ground state which is caused by an intramolecular proton transfer. Also, there was remarkable enhancement in fluorescence intensity of 3 in methanol upon addition of water. Cobalt-based nanocatalyst catalyzed one-pot four-component synthesis 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-triones under solvent-free condition

In this research, an efficient procedure for the one-pot four-component synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-triones catalyzed by a cobalt-based nanocatalyst (Co/Al2O3 nanocatalyst) is reported. The catalyst was prepared by a co-precipitation method and characterized by BET surface area, SEM, TEM, EDS and XRD analyses. A wide range of various aromatic aldehydes including electron-withdrawing and electron-releasing groups were applied and corresponding products obtained in high yields without any by-product. Moreover, the Co/Al2O3 is recyclable up to 7 consecutive runs by simple filtration.

Synthesis of Fe3O4-supported Schiff base Cu (II) complex: a novel efficient and recyclable magnetic nanocatalyst for one-pot three-component synthesis of quinolin-5-one, chromene-3-carbonitrile and phthalazine-5,10-dione derivatives

In this research, synthesis and characterization of a novel Schiff base Cu (II) complex immobilized on Fe3O4@SiO(2)nanoparticles are reported. Then, the catalytic activity of these nanoparticles as magnetic recyclable nanocatalyst was explored for the one-pot three-component synthesis of quinolin-5-one, chromene-3-carbonitrile and phthalazine-5,10-dione derivatives. The reactions proceeded smoothly to provide the respective products in excellent yields under green conditions. Facile preparation of the catalyst, high yields of the products, low reaction times, and use of water as green solvent are the main advantages of the present protocol. Moreover, the catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture in a magnetic field, recycled and reused for six consecutive fresh runs without considerable loss of catalytic activity. Experimental and DFT mechanistic insights into one-pot synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-diones under catalysis of DBU-based ionic liquids

Benzylation of DBU followed by anion exchange of the resulting salt with trifluoroacetate gave nearly quantitatively the ionic liquid [Bn-DBU][TFA]. It is shown here to be an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-dionesviathe three-component reaction of phthalhydrazide, aromatic aldehydes, and active alpha-methylene nitriles. DFT calculations at the B3LYP/SVP level and the experimental results are in agreement with a three-step mechanism for this reaction. Based on the DFT calculations, the catalytic effect largely arises from the intrinsic ionic properties of the ionic liquid rather than its action as a simple base. These calculations also predict the existence of two close-in-energy activated complexes whose rate determining roles and energies depend on their interaction with the anionic component of the ionic liquid, as [Bn-DBU][TFA] has shown a higher catalytic activity than [Bn-DBU][OAc]. This mechanistic approach opens up new and promising insights into the rational design of ionic liquid catalysts for the synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-diones. The synthetic method presented here has several prominent advantages.
