Oligo (p-phenylenevinylene) (OPV) incorporated polystyrene nanobeads (PS-OPV-NH2) having an average size of 180 nm have been synthesized through miniemulsion polymerization. Amine (-NH2) functionalization was performed on the nanobead surface to enhance the efficiency of the sensor among a library of other nitro-organics and library of cations and anions.

Prostate Cancer (PCa) is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men in their late ’50s. PCa growth is mainly due to the activation of the androgen receptor by androgens. The treatment for PCa may involve surgery, hormonal therapy, and oral chemotherapeutic drugs. A structural based molecular docking approach revealed the findings of (E)-N’-((1-chloro-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-2-yl)methylene)benzohydrazide derivatives, where the possible binding modes of the compounds with protein (PDB ID: 3V49) are shown. The compounds (6a-k) were synthesized and characterized by using conventional methods. The compounds, 6g, 6j, and 6k were reconfirmed through single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD). Further, the compounds (6a-k) and standard drug were evaluated against human prostate cancer cell lines, LNCaP and PC-3 and the non-cancerous cell line, 3T3. Among these compounds, 6g and 6j showed higher cytotoxicity, and 6g exhibited dose-dependent activity and reduced cell viability. The mechanism of action was observed through the induced apoptosis and was further confirmed by western blot and ELISA. Molecular dynamics simulation studies were carried out to calculate the interaction and the stability of the protein-ligand complex in motion. ADME properties were predicted for all the tested compounds. These findings may give vital information for further development.

The Passerini three-component reaction between acenaphthylene-1,2-dione, alkyl isocyanides, and carboxylic acids, leading to the formation of alpha-acyloxyamides in common organic solvents (CH2Cl2, MeOH) and choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvent, is described. The expedient and stereoselective syntheses of small libraries of trifunctionalized cyclobutane scaffolds bearing an acid, an amine, and a third functional group are described. Benzene and 23 monosubstituted and 32 disubstituted derivatives of benzene were optimized for minimum energy structures using the B3LYP/cc-pVTZ method. The force fields of all the compounds were evaluated at their optimized geometries using the same method and basis set. In order to understand the effect of substitution(s) on the aromaticity of benzene, the aromaticity index based on interaction coordinates (AIBIC) values were computed for each and the change from the benzene value was obtained. This difference, the substituent effect based on interaction coordinates (SEBIC), quantifies the effect of the substituent on the aromaticity of benzene ring satisfactorily. It is found that the AIBIC of disubstituted benzenes (XC6H4Y) could be predicted well by adding the respective SEBIC(C6H5X) and SEBIC(C6H5Y) values to the AIBIC of benzene. The projected force fields of the meta and para fragments of the monosubstituted benzenes when chosen properly contain the information about the directing influence of the substituent in terms of the electron density based on interaction coordinates (EDBIC). When the EDBIC(para) > EDBIC(meta) relative to benzene, the substituent is ortho-para directing, while when the reverse is true, it is meta directing. The effect of conformational changes on aromaticity has been studied using aminophenols and dihydroxybenzenes. The additivity rule and the EDBIC concept work adequately well in that the methods can have several useful practical applications that will benefit various areas of science. A good understanding of the substituent effects and the ability to predict them should add a new dimension to the applications of AIBIC.

The present report describes an organocatalytic cascade reaction between 2-alkylidene benzo[b]thiophenone derivatives and enones in the presence of the Cinchona alkaloid amine. Spirobenzothiophenonic cyclohexane derivatives containing three stereocenters were prepared via one-step synthesis in yields ranging from 88 to 96% and in enantioselectivities (enantiomeric excess (ee)) ranging from 85 to 97%, with diastereoselectivities of approximately 14/2/1. Therefore, this method provides an efficient route for the synthesis of a new class of optically active 2-spirobenzothiophenones.
