Copper (II) immobilized on L-arginine-beta-cyclodextrin-functionalized magnetite nanoparticles (nano-Fe3O4@L-arginine-CD-Cu(II)) were successfully synthesized and fully characterized using FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, ICP, TGA and VSM techniques. The catalytic activity of these magnetically retrievable nanoparticles was evaluated in the direct oxidation of primary alcohols and benzyl halides to acids in neat conditions that was observed to proceed well and products were obtained in good yields. In addition to showing good catalytic activity, the magnetic catalyst is easy to synthesize and can be recycled at least five times with little loss in activity. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. An artificial flavin system has been firstly proved to employ an N(5)-adduct for a catalytic transformation. This mode of catalysis occurs in some flavoenzymes but it is unknown in chemocatalysis, still exclusively using only C(4a)-adducts. In our report, an ethylene-bridged biomimetic flavin has been shown to participate in the Mitsunobu esterification reaction as an alternative to dialkyl azodicarboxylate. The reaction occurs via a flavin N(5)-triphenylphosphane adduct and is catalytic from the point of view of the flavin, which is regenerated by oxygen. This approach distinguishes from other catalytic Mitsunobu reaction procedures which require an extra catalytic system.

Non-solvent and non-additive oxidation of secondary benzylic C-H bonds to aromatic ketones utilizing simple metalloporphyrins as catalysts and O-2 was investigated systematically. Based on systematical studies on reaction parameters, such as the structures of porphyrins, the types of central metals, the amount of catalyst, the pressure of oxygen, and the temperature, most aromatics with secondary benzylic C-H had been converted efficiently and selectively to their corresponding aromatic ketones catalyzed by the optimized metalloporphyrin catalyst T(2,3,6-triCl)PPCo. And the selectivity towards aromatic ketones reached up to 80 %-95 % with acceptable conversions in lower catalyst-loading (2.4 x 10(-3)%, mol/mol). The highest selectivity was achieved for substrate 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene with the selectivity of 95.0 % in the conversion of 46.3 %. The superior catalytic performance of T(2,3,6-triCl)PPCo could be mainly ascribed to its excellent plane structure, superior ability for electron transfer and low positive charge around the central metal. All of above properties promoted the formation of catalytic active species high-valence cobalt-oxo complexes, and facilitated the approach of substrates to the catalytic active centers. This work presented an optimized balance among higher selectivity, milder conditions, lower catalyst-loading, and simpler catalysts compared with current documents, which was not only an efficient, practical and significant strategy to functionalize the widely available aromatics possessing secondary benzylic C-H with high efficiency and selectivity under milder conditions, but also an important instance in the effective functionalization and utilization of other C-H bonds employing optimized catalytic systems based on metalloporphyrins.

The development of sub-nanometric metal particles (<1 nm) as advanced heterogeneous catalysts has received considerable interest due to their outstanding catalytic performance, while the synthesis and stabilization of sub-nanometric catalysts (SNCs) without using additional surface capping agents remains a challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis of novel three-dimensional pyrenyl graphdiyne (Pyr-GDY) ultrafine nanofibers (3-10 nm), which can serve as an ideal substrate for electroless deposition and stabilization of Pd SNCs through the terminal uncoupled acetenyl groups in Pyr-GDY, with an average Pd particle size of only 0.83 nm. The as-synthesized Pd/Pyr-GDY composite shows extremely high catalytic activities for the reduction of nitroarenes to arylamines and Suzuki coupling reactions, 300 and 25 times higher than those of commercial Pd/C, respectively. The outstanding catalytic performance can be ascribed to the sub-nanometric Pd particles with a clean surface, and the unique three-dimensional network structure of Pyr-GDY, being favorable for rapid mass transfer. Our result provides an ideal carbon material for electroless deposition and stabilization of other SNCs with a clean surface, which will display outstanding catalytic activity for various catalytic reactions. Lignin is a biodegradable, abundant and renewable natural polymer on earth. In this study, deep eutectic solvents (DESs)-modified lignin heterogeneous catalysts were prepared for the first time via a facile acid-base interaction between choline chloride (ChCl) and p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) or its derivatives, which were used to efficiently catalyze the cycloaddition of CO2 and terminal epoxides under green and mild conditions. Among them, lignin-ChCl-PABA was found to exhibit the highest catalytic activity for the cycloaddition of epoxides in the presence of 1.0 MPa of CO2 while retaining high selectivity, which far outperformed those achieved on the homogeneous EDSs catalytic system. A series of cyclic carbonates could be obtained in high yields (90-99%), and lignin-ChCl-PABA was stable and reusable for the cycloaddition reaction (84% yield after 5 recycles). The attaching DES of ChCl/PABA onto the functional lignin increased the catalytic activity and also made the catalyst easier to recycle from the reaction mixture. The -OH and -NH2 groups on the surface of lignin-ChCl-PABA played a very important role in the acceleration of the cycloaddition reaction under solvent free conditions.

Direct C-H bond oxidation of organic materials, and producing the necessary oxygenated compounds under mild conditions, has attracted increasing interest. The selective oxidation of various alkylbenzenes was carried out by means of a new catalyst containing VO2+ species supported on silica-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles usingt-butyl hydroperoxide as an oxidant at room temperature in H2O or solvent-free media. The chemical and structural characterization of the catalyst using several methods such as FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, FETEM, FESEM, SAED, EDX and XPS showed that VO2+ is covalently bonded to the silica surface. High selectivity and excellent conversion of various toluene derivatives, with less reactive aliphatic (sp(3)) C-H bonds, to related benzoic acids were quite noticeable. The aerobic oxygenation reaction of these alkylbenzenes was studied under the same conditions. All the results accompanied by sustainability of the inexpensive and simple magnetically separable heterogeneous catalyst proved the important criteria for commercial applications.
