Ferroan anorthosite suite (FAS) rocks are widely interpreted to represent primordial lunar crust. Despite their importance in pinpointing the timing of lunar crust formation, robust chronological investigations for this rock type are scarce. Here, we report the Ar-Ar, Rb-Sr, and Sm-Nd isotopic systematics for the FAS troctolitic anorthosite 62237. The Ar-Ar isotopic system has been reset by a thermal event at 3710 +/- 48 Ma, and the Rb-Sr isotopic systematics has been disturbed such that a Rb-Sr isochron age cannot be determined. However, an internal isochron for the Sm-Nd isotopic system has yielded an age of 4350 +/- 73 Ma (MSWD = 2.0) with an initial epsilon Nd-143(CHUR) of -0.53 +/- 0.26. The mineral and whole-rock fractions of 62237 plot on the same internal isochron as FAS sample 60025. The combined datasets define an age of 4372 +/- 35 Ma (MSWD = 4.0) with an initial epsilon Nd-143(CHUR) of -0.17 +/- 0.22. Literature Sm-Nd data for FAS and Mg-suite whole-rocks also plot on the 60025-62237 isochron. The coherence of data from both FAS and Mg-suite rocks examined thus far suggests that both rock suites formed contemporaneously from identical, or nearly identical, sources. In addition, the concordance of FAS and Mg-suite ages suggests that primordial crust solidification either involved both magmatic suites, or that Mg-suite magmatism was contemporaneous with FAS magmatism within resolution of the Sm-Nd chronometer. The ages for FAS and Mg-suite also coincide with the formation ages of the mare basalt source regions and urKREEP. Ferroan anorthosite suite rocks and urKREEP are thought to represent primordial LMO solidification products, whereas Mg-suite and the mare basalt source regions are argued to represent mixtures of various LMO crystallization products that were formed during density-driven overturn of the LMO. The concordance of ages implies that the 4372 +/- 35 Ma Sm-Nd isochron records the age of mantle overturn, and that overturn occurred during, or shortly after, solidification of the LMO. Activation of carbonyl moiety is one of the most rudimentary approaches in organic synthesis and is crucial for a plethora of industrial-scale condensation reactions. In esterification and aldol condensation, which represent two of the most important reactions, the susceptibility of the carbonyl group to nucleophile attack allows the construction of a variety of useful organic compounds. In this context, there is a constant need for development of and improvement in the methods for addition-elimination reactions via activation of carbonyl functionality. In this paper, an advanced methodology for the direct esterification of carboxylic acids and alcohols, and for aldol condensation of aldehydes using widely available, inexpensive, and metal-free 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin under neat reaction conditions is reported. The method is air- and moisture-tolerant, allowing simple synthetic and isolation procedures for both reactions presented in this paper. The reaction pathway for esterification is proposed and a scale-up of certain industrially important derivatives is performed.

Conjugated enynes as well as cyclic nitronates are crucial building blocks for numerous natural products and pharmaceuticals. However, so far, no common and metal-free synthetic route to both conjugated enynes and cyclic nitronates has been reported. Herein, in situ NMR, labelling studies and theoretical calculations were combined to investigate the mechanism of the unusual triple bond formation towards conjugated enynes. Starting from nitroalkene dimers, first an isoxazolidine-2,5-diol derivative is formed as central intermediate. From this, enynes were generated by a combination of oxidation, dehydration, and retro 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, whereas for nitronates a base induced intramolecular reorganization is proposed. While the product distribution could be controlled and high yields of nitronate were achieved, only medium to good yields for enynes were obtained due to polymerization losses. Nevertheless, we hope that these mechanistic investigations may provide a basis for further developments of organocatalytic or metal-free preparations of conjugated enynes and nitronates.

A one-pot three-component reaction involving nitroarenes, (hetero)arylboronic acids, and potassium pyrosulfite leading to sulfonamides was described. Equations for vapor pressure VP, as log VP, at 298.15 K for a set of 1016 liquid organic and organometallic compounds have been constructed using Abraham descriptors. The regression standard deviations of 0.28 and 0.31 log units are excellent by comparison with literature values for large data sets. Similar equations for a set of 359 solid organic and organometallic compounds were very poor, but if carboxylic acids were excluded we obtained equations for 261 compounds with standard deviations of 0.62 and 0.66 log units. For the 98 carboxylic acids taken separately we obtained equations with standard deviations of 0.84 and 0.91 log units. Equations for the carboxylic acids were substantially different to those that excluded carboxylic acids, due, we suggest, to the particular dimeric structure of the crystalline carboxylic acids. Objectives We investigated whether patient demographics, 4-month patient-reported outcomes (PRO) and muscle function predicted young athletes regaining symmetrical muscle function in five tests of muscle function 1 year after ACL reconstruction. Methods We extracted data on patient demographics, PROs and the results of five tests of muscle function from a rehabilitation-specific register. Athletes were 15-30 years of age, involved in knee-strenuous sport and had undergone a primary ACL reconstruction. The primary outcome was achieving a Limb Symmetry Index of >= 90% for the battery of tests 1 year after ACL reconstruction. Patient demographics, muscle-function data and results for PROs at the 4-month follow-up were analysed. Results In all, 237 athletes (59% female; mean age 22 +/- 4 years) were included in the study. One year after ACL reconstruction, 26% (62/237) of the included athletes had achieved symmetrical muscle function. Univariable analysis showed that symmetrical muscle function was associated with present self-efficacy, OR 1.28 (95% CI 1.04 to 1.58, p=0.011), knee-extension strength, OR 1.73 (95% CI 1.28 to 2.34), knee-flexion strength, OR 1.39 (95% CI 1.07 to 1.81), vertical hop, OR 1.77 (95% CI 1.27 to 2.45), single-leg hop for distance, OR 1.98 (95% CI 1.24 to 3.17) and side hop, OR 1.64 (95% CI 1.15 to 2.33). Conclusion Symmetrical knee-extension and knee-flexion strength, a more symmetrical hop performance and higher present self-efficacy at an early stage all increased the odds of achieving symmetrical muscle function in young athletes 1 year after ACL reconstruction.

Protein arginine methyltransferases 5 (PRMT5) represents an attractive drug target in epigenetic field for the treatment of leukemia and lymphoma. Here, a series of N-(3-(3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2(1H)-yl)-2-hydroxypropyl)amide derivatives targeting PRMT5 were designed with structure-based approach and synthesized. Among them, compound 46 showed potent and selective PRMT5 inhibition activity with an IC50 of 8.5 nM, which was approximately equivalent with the phase 1 clinical trial PRMT5 inhibitor GSK-3326595 (IC50 = 5.5 nM). Compound 46 also displayed pronounced anti-proliferative activity in MV4-11 cells (GI(50) =18 nM) and antitumor activity in MV4-11 mouse xenografts model. Carbohydrate-based low-molecular-weight gelators are useful and versatile compounds for the preparation of soft materials. Using N-acetyl-D-glucosamine as the starting material, we synthesized and characterized 15 glycolipids containing an amide with different ester functional groups. These include aliphatic derivatives with varying chain lengths and aromatic derivatives. Most of the hybrid amide-esters have molecular weights less than 500 D. These glycolipids were found to be effective gelators for several organic solvents, water, and aqueous solutions. Two efficient hydrogelators were also obtained at low concentrations. A few representative gels were characterized using optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and rheology to obtain information on their morphology and gel stability. Three gelators were also used to encapsulate naproxen sodium and toluidine blue. The sustained release of the drug from the gel to the aqueous phase was monitored by UV-vis spectroscopy. These gelators have structural flexibility that can be stimuli responsive. The esters can be hydrolyzed and several gels were converted to solutions under basic conditions. These rationally designed gelators could be utilized as stimuli-responsive smart materials with controlled release properties.
