Selective tandem oxidative C-H olefination-azaMichael/aza-Wacker reaction of N-arylbenzamides is achieved by fine-tuning between base and additive to access valuable 3-oxoisoindolinyls and 3-oxoisoindolinylidenes, respectively. Careful optimization and control experiments provides a guiding principle in the design of a proposed catalytic cycle. The copper-iminium complex acting as a precursor for the binding of Ru catalyst was isolated and confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The versatility of this catalytic system has been demonstrated by the synthesis of biologically relevant molecules.

Two trans -enynyl alcohol intermediates corresponding to the C1-C8 and C13-C22 parts of resolvin D6 (RvD6) were prepared through the Hudrlik-Peterson reaction of the TMS-substituted trans -epoxy alcohols with TMS-acetylide and subsequent TMS-desilylation. These intermediates were coupled with a 1,4-dihalo-2-butyne derivative under copper catalysis, and the resulting acetylene was reduced with Zn(Cu/Ag) to afford the TBS ether of RvD6 methyl ester. Desilylation with TBAF yielded the gamma-lactone of RvD6, which was hydrolyzed to RvD6. The total yield of RvD6 was 1.9% in 19 steps from (3-trimethylsilyl)propargyl alcohol. The TBS ether of RvE2 methyl ester was also synthesized.

The effect of Fe, Co and Ni promoters on supported MoS2 catalysts for hydrogenation of nitroarenes were systematically investigated via experiment, characterization and DFT calculation. It was found that the addition of promoters remarkably improved the reaction activity in a sequence of Ni > Co > Fe > Mo. Meanwhile Ni promoted catalyst with the best performance showed good recyclability and chemoselectivity for a wide substrate scope. The characterization results revealed that the addition of promoters decreased the interaction between Mo and support and facilitated the reductive sulfidation of Mo species to produce more coordinated unsaturated sites (CUS). DFT calculations showed that the addition of promoters increased the formation of CUS, and enhanced the adsorption of hydrogen. The influence degree of promoters followed the sequence Ni > Co > Fe > Mo, which was consistent with those of the activities. Nitrobenzene hydrogenation and hydrogen activation occurred at the S and Mo edge, respectively. The adsorbed hydrogen diffused from the Mo edge to the S edge to participate in the hydrogenation reaction. Mechanism investigation showed that the main reason for increased activity by the addition of promoters was the increase of amounts of CUS and the secondary reason was the augmentation of intrinsic activity of CUS. The present studies give a new understanding for promoter modified MoS2 catalysts applied for hydrogenation of nitroarenes.

A straightforward synthesis of acylating reagents such as Weinreb and MAP amides from aromatic, aliphatic carboxylic acids, and amino acids using PPh3/NBS combination is described. A chemo-selective modification of the carboxylic acid group into Weinreb amide in the presence of more reactive aldehydes and ketones is presented. All reactions were performed at ambient temperature under air using undried commercial grade solvent. Furthermore, the present methodology could be performed at a gram scale under inert-free reaction conditions. In addition, 7-azaindoline amide auxiliary (used for catalytic asymmetric aldol- and Mannich-type reactions), which behaves like Weinreb amide is also synthesized under similar reaction conditions.

Palladium nanoparticles (similar to 1-3 nm, 0.4 wt% Pd) were uniformly distributed over the surface of fibrous silica nanospheres (KCC-1) modified via aminopropyltriethoxysilane using a fast and cost-effective palladium (II) chloride reduction process. The Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) distribution over the ensuing catalyst Pd/KCC-1-NH2 showed much more uniform distribution, and smaller size compared with the tedious hydrothermal reduction method. The morphological, chemical, and size analyses of Pd/KCC-1-NH2 by BET, UV-Vis spectra, XRD, HR-TEM, EDS and XPS analysis revealed that the succeeding material consist of a distinct fibrous silica nanospheres support adorn with Pd NPs. The resultant nanocatalyst was tested for the one-step reductive aminoformylation of aromatic nitro compounds using formic acid. A wide range of substituted nitroarenes including electron withdrawing, releasing, sterically hindered and multifunctional groups have been converted to corresponding aryl formamide in quantitative yields (yields up to 98%) at moderate temperature (70 degrees C). Optimization study has proved that the 6 equivalent of formic acid is required and toluene was found to be the better solvent. The established practice is beneficial due to the use of formic acid as H-2 source and formylating agent, easiness in handling of the catalyst and simple workup procedure with efficient catalyst reusability. Cancer is a leading cause of human mortality around the globe. In this study, mechanism-based SAR (Structure Activity Relationship) was employed to investigate the carcinogenicity of aromatic amines and nitroaromatics based on CPDB. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were used to construct the SAR model. Principle component analysis generated three principal components from 12 mechanism-based descriptors. The extracted principal components were later used for cluster analysis, which divided the selected 55 chemicals into six clusters. The three principal components were proposed to describe the transport, reactivity and electrophilicity properties of the chemicals. Cluster analysis indicated that the relevant transport properties positively correlated with the carcinogenic potential and were contributing factors in determining the cardnogenicity of the studied chemicals. The mechanism-based SAR analysis suggested the electron donating groups, electron withdrawing groups and planarity are significant factors in determining the carcinogenic potency for studied aromatic compounds. The present study may provide insights into the relationship between the three proposed properties and the carcinogenesis of aromatic amines and nitroaromatics.

Design of chemically novel, biologically potent small heterocyclic molecules with anticancer activities, which targets the enzyme heparanase has gained prominent clinical interest. We have synthesized a novel class of carboxamide derivatives by coupling various substituted aromatic acid hydrazides and triazoleamine with pyrrolidine carboxylic acid by using coupling agents. The synthesized compounds are characterized by spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, DIMS and NMR. These compounds arc investigated for cytotoxicity on different cancer cell lines and heparanase inhibitory activity. Most of them showed moderate heparanase inhibitory activity and good cytotoxicity.

Experimental mole fraction solubilities have been determined for 27 crystalline nonelectrolyte organic compounds and for one organometallic compound (ferrocene) dissolved in methyl butyrate at 298.15 K. The crystalline compounds cover a wide range of polarity and hydrogen-bonding character. Abraham model correlations were derived by combining the solubility data measured in the current study with published values retrieved from the chemical and engineering literature. The mathematical correlations determined in the current study were found to back-calculate the observed solubility data to within standard deviations of 0.10 log units (or less).

In this study, a mild and efficient method is developed for the silylation of diverse functional groups using CeO2 nanoparticles (n-CeO2) as solid catalysts with hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) as silylating agent at room temperature. Alcohols, phenols and acids are silylated to their respective silyl derivatives with faster reaction rate while amines and thiols required relatively longer reaction time. Moreover, the solid catalyst is easily be separated from the reaction mixture and recycled more than five times without any obvious decay in its activity. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-DRS) and Raman analyses revealed identical structural integrity, particle size, absorption edge and valence state for the reused solid compared to the fresh solid catalyst.
