A glutathione trapping assay revealed the formation of hydroxylamine via an AOX1-dependent reduction of dantrolene but not via hydroxylation of aminodantrolene. In conclusion, we found that AOX1 and NAT2 were responsible for dantrolene metabolism in humans and that AOX1-dependent metabolism determines dantrolene-induced liver injury.

Synthesis, characterization and in vitro antibacterial activity of novel phthalazine sulfonamide derivatives

Several phthalazine derivatives were synthesized by the one-pot three-component condensation in good to high yields in the presence of diatomite-SO3H as a solid acid catalyst. Recycling of high temperature steam condensed water from petroleum refinery by thermostable PPESK ultrafiltration membrane

The purification and reclaiming of synthetic and industrial high temperature condensed water containing excess oil and iron is investigated in this study using thermostable poly(phthalazine ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK) ultrafiltration membranes. The results show operation parameters such as transmembrane pressure, temperature and pH of feed solution, initial oil and iron concentration each play important roles in the permeate flux and oil/iron removal efficiencies. Membrane performance is almost recovered after washing with a combination of NaOH and ethanol. High temperature condensed water from Daqing petroleum refinery can be consecutively purified using a PPESK ultrafiltration membrane. The turbidity of the solutions is almost removed. Oil and iron concentrations in the permeate solutions are below 1 mg/L and 50 mu g/L, respectively, which satisfy the Quality Criterion of Water and Steam for Steam Power Equipment in China. UF process shows a promising alternative to existing technology in the Daqing petroleum refinery in terms of cost and environmental protection as well as energy recovery. Aromatic azaheterocycle-cored luminogens with tunable physical properties via nitrogen atoms for sensing strong acids

A series of luminogens comprising one pyridine, 1,3-diazine, 1,4-diazine, 1,2-diazine and phthalazine moiety as the central core and two AIE-active tetraphenylethene units in lateral positions have been readily synthesized by Suzuki cross-coupling. They exhibited remarkably different photophysical and electrochemical properties, as well as solid packing and fine controllability via the number and position of the nitrogen atoms in the aromatic azaheterocycle core. Among them, the pyridine, 1,3-diazine and 1,4-diazine-cored luminogens displayed strong AIE activities, whereas the 1,2-diazine and phthalazine-cored luminogens exhibited almost no AIE effect. The intrinsic Lewis basicity of the as-prepared luminogens endowed them with the ability to fluorometrically detect acids with different pK(a) values. When protonated by a strong acid such as trifluoroacetic acid, the pyridine, 1,3-diazine and 1,4-diazine-cored luminogens displayed relatively weak AIE effects. In contrast, the 1,2-diazine and phthalazine-cored luminogens exhibited highly sensitive responses to strong acids within a precise pKa range by displaying turn-on fluorescence emissions in the low-energy region, which was probably owing to the synergetic effect of AIE and the constraint of the intersystem crossing effect upon protonation of the 1,2-diazine segment. They displayed reversible acidochromism in response to protonation and deprotonation in the solid state. Such unique properties of the as-prepared luminogens could be used for the selective discrimination of some organic acids, which is highly valuable in the study of biological metabolism.

Interestingly, regulation of the stability regions of different Ru oxidation states is obtained by different ligand combinations, going from 6(2+), where Ru(III) is clearly stable and mono-electronic transfers are favoured, to 2a(2+)/2b(2+), where Ru(III) is almost unstable with regard to its disproportionation. The catalytic performance of the Ru-OH2 complexes in chemical water oxidation at pH 1.0 points to poor stability (ligand oxidation), with subsequent evolution of CO2 together with O-2, especially for 4(2+) and 6(2+). In electrochemically driven water oxidation, the highest TOF values are obtained for 2a(2+) at pH 1.0.
