A rhodium catalyzed copper mediated double oxidative annulation of propargylamino phenyl benzamides is developed. A quick assembly of tri, tetra and penta cyclic pyrido/isoquinolo-quinoxilines are thus achieved from readily available linear substrates. The reaction is shown to be very general by accommodating a large variety of substrates in the transformation. A mechanism through an amide directed C-H bond activation followed by an intramolecular alkyne activation/annulation followed by an oxidation is postulated.

Palladium nanoparticles (similar to 1-3 nm, 0.4 wt% Pd) were uniformly distributed over the surface of fibrous silica nanospheres (KCC-1) modified via aminopropyltriethoxysilane using a fast and cost-effective palladium (II) chloride reduction process. The Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) distribution over the ensuing catalyst Pd/KCC-1-NH2 showed much more uniform distribution, and smaller size compared with the tedious hydrothermal reduction method. The morphological, chemical, and size analyses of Pd/KCC-1-NH2 by BET, UV-Vis spectra, XRD, HR-TEM, EDS and XPS analysis revealed that the succeeding material consist of a distinct fibrous silica nanospheres support adorn with Pd NPs. The resultant nanocatalyst was tested for the one-step reductive aminoformylation of aromatic nitro compounds using formic acid. A wide range of substituted nitroarenes including electron withdrawing, releasing, sterically hindered and multifunctional groups have been converted to corresponding aryl formamide in quantitative yields (yields up to 98%) at moderate temperature (70 degrees C). Optimization study has proved that the 6 equivalent of formic acid is required and toluene was found to be the better solvent. The established practice is beneficial due to the use of formic acid as H-2 source and formylating agent, easiness in handling of the catalyst and simple workup procedure with efficient catalyst reusability. In the present study, a series of substituted 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives 4(a-o), 5(a-m) and 6(a-j) were synthesized and characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and mass spectroscopic technique. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro anti-mycobacterial activity against the Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv and resistance MDR-TB strain. Among the compounds tested N-(5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)furan-2-carboxamide (4h) showed significant inhibitory activity with MIC of 9.87 mu M (H37Rv strain) and 9.87 mu M (MDR-TB strain) compared to isoniazide (MIC of 3.64 mu M (H37Rv) and >200 mu M (MDR-TB strain)] and rifampin [MIC of 0.152 mu M (H37Rv) and 128 mu M (MDR-TB strain)]. In addition, these compounds have also been assessed for their cyto-toxicity to a mammalian Vero cell line using the MTT assay. Direct C-H bond oxidation of organic materials, and producing the necessary oxygenated compounds under mild conditions, has attracted increasing interest. The selective oxidation of various alkylbenzenes was carried out by means of a new catalyst containing VO2+ species supported on silica-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles usingt-butyl hydroperoxide as an oxidant at room temperature in H2O or solvent-free media. The chemical and structural characterization of the catalyst using several methods such as FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, FETEM, FESEM, SAED, EDX and XPS showed that VO2+ is covalently bonded to the silica surface. High selectivity and excellent conversion of various toluene derivatives, with less reactive aliphatic (sp(3)) C-H bonds, to related benzoic acids were quite noticeable. The aerobic oxygenation reaction of these alkylbenzenes was studied under the same conditions. All the results accompanied by sustainability of the inexpensive and simple magnetically separable heterogeneous catalyst proved the important criteria for commercial applications.
