A long-term metabolite of the doping agent oxymetholone (OXM-M2, 17 beta-hydroxymethyl-2,17 alpha-methyl-18-norandrost-13-en-3-one) which has been identified by GC-MS/MS was synthesized from commercially available materials. Two efficient synthetic routes to access both C-17 epimers of tentative metabolites were developed. The identity and molecular configuration of the in vivo metabolite: 17 beta-hydroxymethyl-2 alpha,17 alpha-methyl-18-norandrost-13-en-3-one was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

In patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), amputation rates exceed 30% when lower extremity osteomyelitis is present. We sought to determine the rate of osteomyelitis and any subsequent amputation in our patients with DM and lower extremity burns. We performed a single-site, retrospective review at our burn center using the institutional burn center registry, linked to clinical and administrative data. Adults (>= 18 years old) with DM admitted from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2018 for isolated lower extremity burns were eligible for inclusion. We evaluated demographics, burn characteristics, comorbidities, presence of radiologically confirmed osteomyelitis, length of stay (LOS), inpatient hospitalization costs, and amputation rate at 3 months and 12 months after injury. We identified 103 patients with DM and isolated lower extremity burns. Of these, 88 patients did not have osteomyelitis, while 15 patients had radiologically confirmed osteomyelitis within 3 months of the burn injury. Compared to patients without osteomyelitis, patients with osteomyelitis had significantly increased LOS (average LOS 22.7 days vs 12.1 days, P = .0042), inpatient hospitalization costs (average $135,345 vs $62,237, P = .0008), amputation rate within 3 months (66.7% vs 5.70%, P < .00001), and amputation rate within 12 months (66.7% vs 9.1%, P < .0001). The two groups were otherwise similar in demographics, burn injury characteristics, access to healthcare, and preexisting comorbidities. Patients with DM and lower extremity burns incurred increased LOS, higher inpatient hospitalization costs, and increased amputation rates if radiologically confirmed osteomyelitis was present within 3 months of the burn injury. The development of a novel Z-scheme system with a high separation efficiency of the charge carriers for remarkably enhanced photocatalytic activity is highly desirable. Herein, a carbon quantum dot-modified SnNb2O6/BiOCl (CQD-SNO/BOC) Z-scheme system, in which the CQDs acted as a bridge for the charge carriers, was successfully synthesized. As expected, the CQDs acted as a bridge for the charge carriers that could separate and accumulate electrons from SnNb2O6 and holes from BiOCl by promoting the transfer of the photoinduced charge carriers, which enabled the BiOCl holes to maintain their high oxidation capability. Additionally, the CQDs not only endowed the SNO/BOC Z-scheme system with a large specific surface area that provided a greater number of active sites but also noticeably improved its visible light absorption capacity. Therefore, the CQDSNO/BOC Z-scheme system showed an improved photocatalytic performance for the degradation of benzocaine (BC), which was over 20 times, 10 times and 2 times greater than those of BiOCl, SnNb2O6 and SNO/BOC Z-scheme systems, respectively. In addition, the effects of catalyst concentration, pH value, different anions, and humic acid (HA) concentration on the photodegradation of BC were investigated in depth. Simultaneously, a four-stage pathway for the degradation of BC was proposed based on the degradation products that were identified, and the accuracy of this pathway was further verified based on biotoxicity assessments and toxicity predictions of the products. According to the ESR spectra and active species trapping experiments, a mechanism for the CQD-SNO/BOC Z-scheme system was proposed, in which the CQD bridge accelerated charge transfer. Based on these results, the CQD-modified Z-scheme system could be an efficient and promising photocatalyst for the degradation of PPCPs in water.

Fluorescent silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs) displayed different emission wavelengths have been synthesized, but it has not been reported that the preparation of wavelength controllable SiNPs by adjusting the nitrogen content of reducing agents. In this paper, the wavelength-controlled fluorescent SiNPs were prepared by selecting the dopamine (DA) with nitrogen content between catechol and 2-aminophenol as the reducing agent and N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl]-ethylenediamine (DAMO) as the silicon source via one-step hydrothermal method. The emission wavelength of the prepared SiNPs was in direct proportion to the nitrogen content in the reducing agent. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time for exploring the nitrogen content in reducing agents could affect the optical properties of SiNPs so far. In addition, the obtained SiNPs could be applied to determinate 2-nitrophenol (2-NP). Based on the combination action of inner filter effect (IFE) and static quenching effect (SQE) mechanism, a wide linear range was obtained from 0.1 to 500 mu M, and the limit of detection was 0.029 mu M for 2-NP, which was comparable to or even lower than some previous reports. This SiNPs probe was also successfully employed for sensing of 2-NP in industrial effluent with satisfactory results (98.6%-103.4%).

Through a screen of over one hundred and 30 permutations of reaction temperatures, solvents, carbodiimide resins, and carbodiimide molar equivalences, in the presence, absence, or combination of diisopropylamine and benzotriazole additives, a convenient and first reported carbodiimide polymer-assisted flow approach to effect amide coupling and lactamization was developed. The protocol entails injecting a single solution (1:9 dimethylformamide: dichloromethane) containing a carboxylic acid and an amine or linear peptide sequence into a continuous stream of dichloromethane. The protocol remained viable in the absence of base, did not require carboxylate preactivation which, and in concert with minimal workup requirements, enabled the isolation of products in high yields. Compared to the utilization of untethered carbodiimide reagents, the flow procedure was also observed to provide a degree of racemization safety.

Enantioselective formation of cyclohexene derivatives bearing an all-carbon quaternary stereogenic center is described. The racemic cyclohexenes are readily transformed to chiral substituted cyclohexenes in good yield with excellent enantioselectivity and diastereoselectivity by a palladium-mediated deracemization. The resulting products are promising synthetic intermediates of biologically active natural products. This protocol provides us with a new entry to the concise and scalable synthesis of multifunctionalized compounds.

We report the desiging of ultrafine Pd-based nanocatalyst containing N-doped carbon structure (Pd@NC). The material was prepared by direct dehydration at 120 degrees C followed by mixing and heating with a dopant (ammonium oxalate) at 150 degrees C in a furnace. The Pd@NC nanocatalyst containing electron-rich pyridinic-N doped carbon structure, was thoroughly characterized by various techniques namely SEM, EDX, TEM, FTIR, ICP-AES, XRD, XPS, TGA and Raman spectroscopy. The utility of the Pd@NC nanocatalyst was explored for base-free Knoevenagel condensation and 4H-pyran derivatives and also in the reduction of nitroarenes under mild and greener conditions. Further, the optical property was explored using photoluminescence spectroscopy and band gap was also calculated. The heterogeneous nature and stability of the catalyst facilitated by its ease of separation for long-term performance and recycling studies showed that catalyst was robust and remained active upto six recycling experiments. Also, the leaching of metal was confirmed by ICP-AES. The superiority of the catalyst was attributed to the metal support interaction (MSI) between metallic palladium and pyridinic-N doped carbon to acquire excellent catalytic activity and changing the reducing nature of NaBH4 towards nitro functionality. The MSI between pyridinic-N dopant on the carbon structure and PdNPs produces highly active sites for catalytic performance under mild conditions.
