An 850 nm pure near-infrared emitting iridium complex for solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes

High-performance pure near-infrared organic light-emitting materials and devices with full emission over 700 nm are still rare, though urgently needed. Iridium(iii) complexes have been proven to be an important class of NIR emitters. Herein, we report a new NIR homoleptic Ir(iii) complex, tris[1,4-di(5-n-octylthiophen-2-yl)benzo[g]phthalazine] iridium(iii) (Ir(dotbpa)(3)), with full emission beyond 700 nm with an iridium mass content as low as 10 wt%. Thanks to the introduction of flexiblen-octyl groups,Ir(dotbpa)(3)shows greatly improved solubility and excellent solution-processability in comparison with its counterpartIr(dtbpa)(3). By utilizing a multifunctional host, solution-processed NIR-OLEDs were fabricated with a simple structure of only three organic layers and they demonstrated a pure NIR emission starting from 725 nm and a peak at 850 nm with the maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.17%, which makes them the first example of pure NIR-OLEDs based on Ir(iii) emitters.

Caesium carbonate supported on hydroxyapatite-encapsulated Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanocrystallites as a novel magnetically basic catalyst for the one-pot synthesis of pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-diones

A novel nanomagnetic basic catalyst of caesium carbonate supported on hydroxyapatite-coated Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles (Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4@HAP-Cs2CO3) was prepared. This new catalyst was fully characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometry techniques, and then the catalytic activity of this catalyst was investigated in the synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-dione derivatives. Also, Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4@HAP-Cs2CO3 could be reused at least five times without significant loss of activity and could be recovered easily by applying an external magnet. Synthesis and In vitro Analysis of Novel Dihydroxyacetophenone Derivatives with Antimicrobial and Antitumor Activities

Herein we report a feasible study concerning the design, syntheses and in vitro antimicrobial and antitumoral activities of some novel compounds with dihydroxyacetophenone (DA) moiety. An efficient and general method for the preparation of diazine with dihydroxyacetophenone (DDA) skeleton under conventional thermal heating (TH), microwave (MW) and ultrasounds (US) irradiation is presented. Antimicrobial and antitumoral tests prove that some dihydroxyacetophenone compounds (the brominated derivatives BrDA 3) have a significant biological activity. It is also to be pointed out that, basically all the dihydroxyacetophenone derivatives proved to have a powerful antibacterial activity against drug resistant Gram-negative strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Of particular interest could be the excellent antibacterial activity of our dihydroxyacetophenone compounds against drug resistant Gram-negative strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Molecular docking and biological assessment of substituted phthalazin-1(2H)-one derivatives

2, 4-Disubstituted phthalazin-1(2H)-one derivatives were synthesized via nucleophilic attack of N-2 of phthalazin-1(2H)-one derivatives on different alkyl halides. Introducing new and effective catalysts for the synthesis of pyridazino[1,2-a]indazole, indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine and pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine derivatives

In this study, a new and effective catalyst for the synthesis of pyridazino[1,2-a]indazole, indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine and pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine derivatives was introduced. Triethanolammonium acetate ([TEAH][OAc]) accelerates the reaction in a one-pot and four-component condensation of aldehydes, hydrazine hydrate, succinic/phthalic anhydride, and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. The yield of the products is high, and the reaction conditions are mild and solvent-free. Furthermore, the model reaction was conducted in the presence of triethanolammonium sulphate ([TEAH][HSO4] and triethanolammonium formate ([TEAH][HCOO]) under various conditions. In addition, the catalyst is recyclable, therefore, it can be reused several times. The structure of the obtained products was confirmed by comparing the M.P., IR, and H-1 NMR. Advantages of this technique are as following: Synthesis of novel, green, and one-pot and four-component condensation (4CC) under solvent-free conditions at room temperature. The catalytic reaction is performed under mild and environmentally friendly conditions in short reaction times and excellent yields. Inorganic-organic hybrid chitosan-based Schiff base-Ni complex as a novel, highly efficient and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for synthesis of pyrazolophthalazinediones

A Schiff base based on chitosan was synthesized through treatment of chitosan and p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde in methanol solution. This biopolymeric Schiff base was used to prepare a new first row transition metal complex of Ni(II). The biopolymeric Schiff base and the synthesized tetra-coordinated complex were characterized using Fourier transform infrared, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR techniques. Then, an efficient synthetic method for functionalized 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b] phthalazine-5,10-diones was successfully developed using one-pot domino reaction of ninhydrin and malononitrile with 3-arylamino-5,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexenones catalysed by the chitosan-based Schiff base complex of Ni(II) at room temperature. The advantages of this protocol are easy work-up, short reaction times and high yield of products and also the catalyst can be readily isolated from the reaction mixture and recycled without loss of catalytic activity.

Inhibition of water adsorption into polar solid-phase microextraction materials with ultrathin polydimethylsiloxane coating for thermal desorption-gas chromatography analysis

Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coupled with thermal desorption-gas chromatography (TD-GC) has become a powerful analysis tool for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in water samples. However, water adsorption into polar microextraction phase is usually unavoidable during the extraction process, and the burst of large amounts of water vapour during thermal desorption will cause serious problems to GC separation and detectors. Pawliszyn’s group had demonstrated that the tens of micron-thick, defect-free polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) coating could act as a perfect barrier for water adsorption and offer much better compatibility in complex matrices. However, the PDMS overcoat largely decreased the uptake rate of polar analytes into the inner sorbent. In order to quantify the effect of PDMS coating thickness on water adsorption amount and the extraction kinetics, ultrathin PDMS layer was used to coat the polar extraction phase with polyimide (PI) as a model in this work. It was surprising to find that the PDMS coating with the thickness less than one micron can decrease the water adsorption by 96%, while the extraction efficiency for polar analytes (phenolic compounds and nitroaromatic explosives) was decreased by less than 20% at the extraction time of 30 min. Moreover, the kinetic data showed that the thinner the PDMS coating was, the less the uptake rate of polar analytes into PI extraction phase decreased. Finally, polar poly (phthalazine ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK) extraction phase was also coated with ultrathin PDMS coating to verify the universality of the strategy. Generally, the water adsorption problem in polar SPME was overcome to a great extent, and the extraction efficiency of polar analytes was mainly preserved with this ultrathin PDMS coating, which could broaden the application of SPME in the environmental field. Pathogenic fungi are one of the main causes of hospital-related infections. Since conventional antifungals have become less effective because of the increasing fungal resistance to the standard drugs, the need for new agents is becoming urgent. Herein we report a synthesis of a series of novel N-[imino-(1-oxo-(1H)-phthalazin-2-yl) methyl]benzenesulfonamide derivatives with in vitro activity against yeast-like fungi isolated from the oral cavity and respiratory tract of patients with candidiasis. These compounds were synthesized by the one-step or two-step reactions of 1-(2-alkylthiobenzensulfonyl)-2aminoguanidines with the appropriate ortho-carbonyl benzoic acids. The biological study revealed that new derivatives have shown significant growth-inhibitory activity, superior or comparable, than those of the reference drug fluconazole. The most promising activities were observed against Candida albicans, with inhibition at least 1-3 (12.5%-37.5%) of the eight tested strains at the low MIC level of <= 6.2-25 mu g/mL.
