A site-selective supported palladium nanoparticle catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction with heteroaryl esters and arylboronic acids as coupling partners was developed. This methodology provides a heterogeneous catalytic route for aryl ketone formation via C(acyl)-O bond activation of esters by successful suppression of the undesired decarbonylation phenomenon. The catalyst can be reused and shows high activity after eight cycles. The XPS analysis of the catalyst before and after the reaction suggested that the reaction might be performed via a Pd-0/Pd-II catalytic cycle that began with Pd-0.

A novel series of a hybrid class of hybrid thiazolidin-4-one derivatives were designed and synthesized through one-pot catalytic synthesis. The reaction was catalyzed in the presence of silica-H(2)SO4((+6)). The derivatives computational ADMET profile was calculated. The study shows that most active derivatives have optimal logP, higher anti-inflammatory activity score, and poor metabolism at the sight of P450-3A4 and 2D6. The entire series of derivatives were further evaluated for anti-tubercular (against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (Resistant strain)) and anti-inflammatory activity (in-vivo assay using Wistar rat). The result showed that derivatives 4c, 4h, and 4m have significant potency against tested M. tuberculosis. However, derivatives 4i and 4j found significantly active against inflammation. In vitro COX inhibition assay also supported the result in favor of selectivity and efficacy of derivatives. [GRAPHICS] .

A porous cross-linked poly (ethyleneamine)-polysulfonamide (PEA-PSA) as a novel organic support system is synthesized in the presence of silica template by nanocasting technique. The paper demonstrates immobilization of CuI nanoparticles inside the pores (PEA-PSA@CuI) for the facile recovery and recycling of these nanoparticles. The presence of porous PEA-PSA and PEA-PSA@CuI nanocomposites was confirmed using FT-IR spectroscopy, FE-SEM, EDX, TGA, XRD, TEM, BET, XPS, WDX, H-1 NMR, and ICP-OES techniques. The PEA-PSA@CuI along with Ag(I)/K2S2O8 was implemented as a reusable cooperative catalyst-oxidant system in the N-arylation of p-toluenesulfonamide with substituted carboxylic acids in mild condition. So, the novel decarboxylative cross-coupling catalyzed by copper and silver has been developed. Aromatic, secondary and tertiary aliphatic acids underwent high efficient decarboxylative processes with p-toluenesulfonamide to afford the corresponding products. This method provides a practical approach for the flexible synthesis of sulfonamides from the readily affordable substrates. The catalyst is highly reusable and efficient, especially in terms of time and yield of the desired product.

Oxidative stress plays vital roles in virous neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease. Activation of the transcription factor Nrf2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2), the key regulator of oxidative stress, may provide a new therapeutic strategy for these diseases. Herein we synthesized and evaluated a series of 1,3,4-oxa/thiadiazole core Nrf2 activators as neuroprotective agents. The representative compound 8 exhibited cytoprotective and Nrf2 activation effects in a neuron-like PC-12 cells. Additionally, compound 8 showed good membrane permeability, indicating this compound could penetrate blood-brain barrier (BBB) to reach central nervous system (CNS) as a neuro-protective agent. These results indicated that these Nrf2 activators with 1,3,4-oxa/thiadiazole core could serve as a new chemotype against oxidative stress in neurodegenerative diseases.

Lignin is a biodegradable, abundant and renewable natural polymer on earth. In this study, deep eutectic solvents (DESs)-modified lignin heterogeneous catalysts were prepared for the first time via a facile acid-base interaction between choline chloride (ChCl) and p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) or its derivatives, which were used to efficiently catalyze the cycloaddition of CO2 and terminal epoxides under green and mild conditions. Among them, lignin-ChCl-PABA was found to exhibit the highest catalytic activity for the cycloaddition of epoxides in the presence of 1.0 MPa of CO2 while retaining high selectivity, which far outperformed those achieved on the homogeneous EDSs catalytic system. A series of cyclic carbonates could be obtained in high yields (90-99%), and lignin-ChCl-PABA was stable and reusable for the cycloaddition reaction (84% yield after 5 recycles). The attaching DES of ChCl/PABA onto the functional lignin increased the catalytic activity and also made the catalyst easier to recycle from the reaction mixture. The -OH and -NH2 groups on the surface of lignin-ChCl-PABA played a very important role in the acceleration of the cycloaddition reaction under solvent free conditions.

The development of sub-nanometric metal particles (<1 nm) as advanced heterogeneous catalysts has received considerable interest due to their outstanding catalytic performance, while the synthesis and stabilization of sub-nanometric catalysts (SNCs) without using additional surface capping agents remains a challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis of novel three-dimensional pyrenyl graphdiyne (Pyr-GDY) ultrafine nanofibers (3-10 nm), which can serve as an ideal substrate for electroless deposition and stabilization of Pd SNCs through the terminal uncoupled acetenyl groups in Pyr-GDY, with an average Pd particle size of only 0.83 nm. The as-synthesized Pd/Pyr-GDY composite shows extremely high catalytic activities for the reduction of nitroarenes to arylamines and Suzuki coupling reactions, 300 and 25 times higher than those of commercial Pd/C, respectively. The outstanding catalytic performance can be ascribed to the sub-nanometric Pd particles with a clean surface, and the unique three-dimensional network structure of Pyr-GDY, being favorable for rapid mass transfer. Our result provides an ideal carbon material for electroless deposition and stabilization of other SNCs with a clean surface, which will display outstanding catalytic activity for various catalytic reactions. Non-solvent and non-additive oxidation of secondary benzylic C-H bonds to aromatic ketones utilizing simple metalloporphyrins as catalysts and O-2 was investigated systematically. Based on systematical studies on reaction parameters, such as the structures of porphyrins, the types of central metals, the amount of catalyst, the pressure of oxygen, and the temperature, most aromatics with secondary benzylic C-H had been converted efficiently and selectively to their corresponding aromatic ketones catalyzed by the optimized metalloporphyrin catalyst T(2,3,6-triCl)PPCo. And the selectivity towards aromatic ketones reached up to 80 %-95 % with acceptable conversions in lower catalyst-loading (2.4 x 10(-3)%, mol/mol). The highest selectivity was achieved for substrate 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene with the selectivity of 95.0 % in the conversion of 46.3 %. The superior catalytic performance of T(2,3,6-triCl)PPCo could be mainly ascribed to its excellent plane structure, superior ability for electron transfer and low positive charge around the central metal. All of above properties promoted the formation of catalytic active species high-valence cobalt-oxo complexes, and facilitated the approach of substrates to the catalytic active centers. This work presented an optimized balance among higher selectivity, milder conditions, lower catalyst-loading, and simpler catalysts compared with current documents, which was not only an efficient, practical and significant strategy to functionalize the widely available aromatics possessing secondary benzylic C-H with high efficiency and selectivity under milder conditions, but also an important instance in the effective functionalization and utilization of other C-H bonds employing optimized catalytic systems based on metalloporphyrins.

Bronsted acidic ionic liquids (BAILs) have been used as catalyst and solvent in organic synthesis, due to their negligible volatility, remarkable solubility, good catalytic activity, and easily structurally tunable properties. In the present study, we have investigated the catalytic efficiency of economically viable ionic liquids bearing different cations pyridinium ([PyH](+) and triethylammonium [TEAH](+)) for the esterification of aromatic acid with various aliphatic alcohols and crossed aldol condensation of aromatic aldehydes with cyclohexanone under ambient condition. We also examined the effect of various process parameters on the yield of aromatic esters and alpha,alpha’-bis(arylidene)cycloalkanones.

An artificial flavin system has been firstly proved to employ an N(5)-adduct for a catalytic transformation. This mode of catalysis occurs in some flavoenzymes but it is unknown in chemocatalysis, still exclusively using only C(4a)-adducts. In our report, an ethylene-bridged biomimetic flavin has been shown to participate in the Mitsunobu esterification reaction as an alternative to dialkyl azodicarboxylate. The reaction occurs via a flavin N(5)-triphenylphosphane adduct and is catalytic from the point of view of the flavin, which is regenerated by oxygen. This approach distinguishes from other catalytic Mitsunobu reaction procedures which require an extra catalytic system.
